This is a pretty good cartoon-ization of your friend. ^^ As a matter a fact, your pretty good at cartooning, period. You seem to have the layout pretty down and your lines are clean. The only think I would suggest to you is to keep playing around with colors and shading. Use darker colors to create contrast when shading.

Also, try using more than two colors. For example, for the hair you used two colors: brown and a lighter brown for the lighting. Usually the norm is three colors. The "medium," which is usually the base, a darker shade for shadows and a lighter shade for lighting. Pretty straightforward, huh?

Like I said before, your anatomy is pretty good. The next thing for you is to simply play around with colors. ^^ Have fun with it.
